Chamber to Begin Labor Force Study

The Lawrence Chamber recently approved the commission of a study that will gather important data about the available labor force in Douglas County and the surrounding region.

The survey will gather information including unemployment, underemployment, commute time, willingness to commute and how far, salary and benefit requirements to enter the workforce, skills of the available labor pool and more. This important data will help the Lawrence Chamber and its economic development partners to better target site selectors and potential companies that are a good fit for Lawrence and Douglas County.

The survey will include no less than 800 people, and cover the following counties: Douglas, Shawnee, Osage, Jefferson, Franklin, Leavenworth, Johnson and Miami. It will be performed by the Docking Institute of Public Affairs at Fort Hays State University, which has extensive experience in community and economic development research in the Midwest.

Funding for the study is being provided by Douglas County Development Inc. (DCDI).
