Distinguished Alumni Award

This community leadership award, to be presented annually by the Leadership Lawrence Advisory Board of Directors, will recognize an alumni of the Chamber Leadership Lawrence program who exemplifies the spirit and goals of the program. The recipient should demonstrate civic involvement and trusteeship through the investment of personal time and talent to strengthen the Lawrence/Douglas County area.

Judy Wright

In recent years, Judy has won the Athena Award, given by the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, which recognizes women who have excelled in their field and served as mentors for women. She has also been awarded the Lawrence Public Schools Outstanding Citizen Award. She recently completed terms as President of the Kansas Alpha House Corporation Board for Pi Beta Phi and as Vice Chair for Small Business and Membership on teh Lawrence Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She is a Trustee and Past Chair of the Leadership Lawrence program and served two years as teh Chair of the Lawrence Arts Commission, a city appointed position.

Judy and her husband, Dr. Jack Wright, Professor of Theatre and Film, have two daughters, Ellen Anthony Moore, a Ph.D. student at The Graduate Center, City University of New York, and Eryn Wright, a recent Masters of Social Welfare graduate who works at the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center.

Judy L. Wright, director of The Chancellors Club, KU Endowment, serves the university by administering KU's major-donor organization. She holds a B.A. and M.A. from Baylor University in Theatre and Speech and a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas in Communcation Studies.
