Chamber to host Economic Development Playmakers
February 15, 2006 | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lawrence, Kan. – The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce is putting finishing touches on a winning game-day plan designed to showcase Lawrence’s best. The Chamber’s Economic Development team will host seven site location consultants for a “fast-break” visit on Saturday, February 18. The consultants, hailing from Chicago, Dallas and Austin, will join Chamber staff for a high-tempo day.
The “Fast Break Strategy” begins with the consultants’ arrival on Saturday morning. The guests will square-up for a quick tour of Lawrence on their way to lunch at Pachamama’s. There, Chamber, Kansas Department of Commerce and KCADC (Kansas City Area Development Council) officials will have an opportunity to talk with them about the Lawrence area and all it offers prospective businesses. After enjoying lunch, the group will dash to Allen Fieldhouse to take in the Kansas University vs. University of Missouri men’s basketball game. The storied rivalry and spirited crowd will provide consultants with a glimpse into the enthusiasm that embodies Lawrence and the university. At the game’s conclusion, the consultants will return home loaded with KU and Lawrence souvenirs as well as a supply of the Chamber’s marketing and relocation materials that illustrate the Chamber’s aggressive approach to Economic Development. The invited site selectors were chosen by the Lawrence Chamber staff in conjunction with the Kansas Department of Commerce.
“Site selectors receive information from communities across the United States and are forced to quickly weed through those when a business is on the move,” said Beth Johnson, Vice President for Economic Development. “They are accustomed to moving quickly and this trip’s format is designed to show them that Lawrence is too.”
The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event with assists from the Kansas Department of Commerce and KCADC.
The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce advocates for business and community prosperity as it creates diverse jobs; cultivates a successful business environment; develops active leaders; and promotes the assets of Lawrence and Douglas County.
