Lawrence, Kan. – The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius presented President & CEO Lavern D. Squier with the Silver Stirrup Award on behalf of the Kansas Cavalry at its 34th Annual Encampment on Monday, June 12.
The Silver Stirrup Award recognizes dedicated leadership and meritorious service in economic development for the state of Kansas. It is named in honor of Samuel J. Crawford, the third governor of Kansas.
Steve R. Kelly, director of business development for the Kansas Department of Commerce, said that Squier is known statewide for his achievements in previous positions as well as in Lawrence. “Lavern is regarded by his peers in economic development in the state of Kansas and elsewhere as epitomizing positive qualities for a professional in our field. He is known for his integrity and his willingness to work and get things done. He’s an incredibly positive person,” Kelly said.
The Kansas Cavalry is an organization comprising volunteer business, education, and economic development professionals who actively recruit businesses and promote Kansas as an attractive location for business. The Kansas Cavalry accomplishes its mission in collaboration with the Kansas Department of Commerce.
