Chamber Announces Excellence in Commerce Finalists

Lawrence, Kan. – Fourteen Lawrence businesses have been selected as finalists for the 2006 Excellence in Commerce Awards. The program recognizes local companies for overall excellence. Each company is judged on its business stability and growth, accomplishments within the industry, community involvement and employee culture. “We’re excited to be able to offer this well deserved recognition to our businesses that give so much to the community,” said Jamie Blaylock, Director of Business Retention and Attraction Programs. “These businesses are the best of the best in our area.”

This year’s finalists, listed by category are:
Manufacturing or Distribution: Amarr Garage Doors, Berry Plastics, Sauer-Danfoss Company
Service: Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, Callahan Creek, Douglas County Bank
Retail or Hospitality: Crown Chevrolet-Toyota-Scion, The Eldridge
Technology: Neotopia, Inc., Pinnacle Technology
Small Business: Peggy Johnson CFP Ameriprise Financial, KU Credit Union, Legends Drive Dental Center, James F. Otten, DDS

More than forty businesses were nominated for this year’s awards which will be presented during a breakfast ceremony October 3 at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott. The program is sponsored by the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, Kansas University Small Business Development Center, Lawrence Regional Technology Center, KU’s School of Business and Minuteman Press. Winners of the awards will be nominated by the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce for the Kansas Department of Commerce’s Business Appreciation Month Awards in June 2007.

The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce advocates for business and community prosperity as it creates diverse jobs; cultivates a successful business environment; develops active community leaders; and promotes the assets of Lawrence and Douglas County.
